Famous as much for its near-mythological genesis involving a commission from a mysterious stranger as for its deep emotion and grand Classical gestures, Mozart’s Requiem is one of the composer’s most respected works, all the more poignant as it was also his last. Poulenc’s brilliant Gloria, seemingly on the other end of the musical spectrum, is no less sublime a statement of religious feeling. Under the baton of the incomparable conductor Joseph Flummerfelt, Spoleto Festival USA Artistic Director for Choral Activities, the Westminster Choir joined forces with the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus for this magnificent evening. Sponsored by the City of Isle of Palms.
