"She ripped into those skinny treble strings, tossed the axe behind her head, and played as though nothing could stop her."
-Charleston City Paper

Born in 1940, Beverly Watkins started playing blues guitar in an era that found women mostly in the role of singer. She describes her style as “real Lightnin' Hopkins lowdown blues ... that hard classic blues, hard stompin' blues ... railroad smokin' blues!” She has shared the stage with James Brown, B.B. King, Ray Charles and, as a recent review put it, “sings and plays with enough poise and verve to make musicians half her age or younger consider alternate means of employment.”
